A certified translation, also known as a sworn translation, is a translation performed by a certified translator, also called a sworn translator. A certified translator and commercial interpreter (the official name of the profession) is qualified in one or more foreign languages in addition to Portuguese, and is appointed by and enrolled in the Commercial Registry of his/her state after passing a civil servant examination. Only certified (sworn) translations are officially recognized by institutions and public agencies in Brazil and are valid as official or legal documents.
For a foreign language document to be valid in Brazil, it needs to be accompanied by its corresponding certified translation. To perform this service, Korn Translations charges the certified translation fees established in the Price Schedule for Certified Translators and Commercial Interpreters of JUCESP (Commercial Registry of the State of São Paulo).
